is underway to create the first perpetually-orbiting space station.
There is much tension behind the scenes: chief construction engineer
Steve Mitchell (Howard Duff) grows close to beautiful mathematician
Lisa Frank (Eva Bartok), while Steve's wife Vanessa (Cecile Chevreau)
becomes unusually friendly with biologist Philip Crenshaw (Andrew
Osborn).
When an unmanned rocket fails to return to
Earth MI5 investigator Dr Smith (Alan Wheatley) suspects that Steve has
killed Vanessa and Philip and hidden their bodies on board. Steve is
forced to take a rocket into space to clear his name. His journey is
already underway when he discovers he has an unexpected
companion...
This early Hammer classic was directed by
the legendary Terence Fisher and based on the BBC radio production of
1952. This disc also features the rarely seen documentary Operation
Universe, produced in colour and HammerScope in
1957.
